  15. Newspapers, Inc., the powerful West Coast print-media chain; of
  16. a heart attack while jogging; in Sacramento. McClatchy infused
  17. his papers with a competitive edge and a knack for controversy.
  18. After McClatchy's Sacramento Bee published a 1983 article
  19. detailing then Nevada Republican Senator and later presidential
  20. aspirant Paul Laxalt's ownership of a Carson City hotel and
  21. casino during the 1970s, Laxalt sued for libel. He settled out
  22. of court in 1987.
